Windshield Replacement Insurance Claims

Windshield replacement with insurance is becoming a more viable option for many consumers simply because of price increases happening in the auto glass world.  What is causing this price increase you may ask? It's very simple, technology in the auto glass itself. Most new cars now come with loads of safety technologies like auto brake hold, lane departure warning system, emergency brake system and many more. When a new windshield is installed a slight movement of the camera will need re-calibration.

The cost of calibration costs any where from $250 dollars to $500 dollars, depending on what your vehicle needs. Static or dynamic calibration are $250 each and some cars require both to function properly. At Amco we have a state of the art calibration machine which can do the calibration on site. No need to go to your dealer and have it calibrated over there. We guarantee our calibrations for life. If its not working after the first time bring it back in and we will do a full calibration that may take up to 4 hours to complete. But rest assured this is usually not the case, only some finicky cameras will cause these issues. Please be aware of when your camera operates. Some people are unaware that their lane departure feature only turns on at above 60 km/hr. And some emergency braking system's will only work above 10 km/hr. So each car has its own rules and specific guidelines for its safety systems. Please read your owners manual before requesting a re-calibration.

Windshield Replacement, Information from our very own one of a kind auto glass blog!!

Here is a little part of our monthly blog, where we share valuable windshield replacement and knowledge. Lets say you have a 2010 Lexus RX350 and you need to get a windshield replacement. Well one of the companies Lexus uses to make their glass is Pilkington. So Pilkington will in fact, sell to us directly. But they also sell the same glass that says Lexus on it. So you are getting an O.E.M. glass made by one of the major glass OEM's but it wont have the Lexus logo on it. But its the same brand as the original Lexus logo auto glass. So should you pay the mark up for the original? Yes if you have a newer car and you want to keep everything original then there is no better way in preserving your car's value then by keeping it all original. However, if we are talking about value of auto glass per dollar the original glass is not the way to go. The price discrepancies are not justifiable if you have an older vehicle, over five years old.

Don't confuse OEM with original windshield glass. Because the companies who make the originals make auto glass for replacements because they know that one day one of the owners might need a new windshield. So they give them a cheaper option by selling the same auto glass de-branded  as an aftermarket windshield. So although its technically aftermarket it is made by the original glass manufacture.

Now there are some third or even fourth party companies who do not make original glass and they sell aftermarket glass as well. Those brands are the ones to usually avoid unless you want the best deal and cheapest price and cheapest windshield.

The sweet spot is where I like to be and that is the aftermarket OEM version. Its the same as the original without the huge mark up and its a god send! Its the glass I use on my own vehicles when I need a windscreen replacement and its the one I recommend the most.
